LIV VACANTI
Che Corsa
Within the show my work portrays a timeline, a path of a man's life through his labor, culture and language. The work displays a commemorative feel, voiced through his wife’s perspective but visually through his eyes. The work begins with a film, composed of over 60 works, using screen-printing, etching and small clips. It is carried out through an array of conversations and an ongoing interviews. The sound relays the inside of entering an Italian household, the noise, arguing, intensity and love. The sound also carries the audience through a journey, through its movement and approaching loss. The work exhibits the 6 screens in which the prints were formed from. The screens mimic the manual labor, whilst also marking a nod to the process. They display the physical layers of the technique and representation of his timeline. Additionally, I have incorporated numerous handprints, investigating the elements of language and work. The prints are finely screen-printed with flour and semolina. All the prints are hung through fine nails, gesturing to the nails found in his sheds. The flour pieces mark the end of his life, as the flour is unframed, free to descend through its form, as it wears away over time.
